The Best Homemade Lemonade Recipe
On a hot summer's day there is nothing like a glass of ice cold homemade lemonade. So why not get juicing with this quick and easy homemade lemonade recipe. It really is the best!
This recipe has been adapted from the wonderful Irish chef, Darina Allen. It's ridiculously simple. First you make a sugar syrup, or 'stock'.
For the Lemon-Infused Stock Syrup (makes 800ml) 450g sugar 600ml water Peel of 1-2 lemons Add several slices of lemon peel to the water. Dissolve the sugar in the water over a gentle heat and bring to the boil. Boil for two minutes, then allow it to cool. Store in the fridge until needed. The basic stock syrup can be flavoured with different herbs and flowers. Experiment with rosemary, sweet geranium, lavender, mint and lemongrass. The stock will keep for ages in the fridge and can be frozen. When you want a refreshing homemade drink, simply squeeze the citrus fruits of your choice, add to a measure of stock syrup and top up with water. Homemade Lemonade (makes about 2 litres) 6-8 lemons (depending on how tart you like your drink) about 450ml stock syrup (see above) about 1.5 litres of water mint or lemon balm to garnish Juice the fruit and mix with the stock syrup, adding water to taste. Pour into glasses, add an ice cube or two, garnish with sprigs of mint or lemon balm and serve.
